Living in Private AccommodationIf you are reading this
section then it means that you are considering living in private
accommodation. Although the University provides a
wide range of accommodation, many students prefer to find their own,
or even buy their own property.
If you choose to live in private
accommodation (pdf poster), we will give advice and assistance
and point you in the right direction and would therefore recommend
that you read Surviving
and Succeeding in Higher Education - Private Accommodation
(pdf). This publication is also available in rtf.
We strongly advise you to also look at the HMO (rtf)
information from Dundee City Council. Dundee has a wide choice of
properties available at affordable rents, starting at around ?0 a
week. Landlords now expect full rent for 52 weeks of the year.
We can advise you
Please note: The University does not recommend or endorse any
individual landlord or company. Once you've found a property you may
wish to call into the SAS for a lease check. We will go through the
lease, give background information on the landlord, and discuss the
pros and cons of the location of the property. Once you sign-up, the
lease is legally binding, so you need to know what your rights and
responsibilities are before you put pen to paper.
Advice to Existing Tenants
We also give advice to students who are already living in private
accommodation and we also liaise with current landlords on issues
such as student/landlord disputes, rent arrears, etc.
